A premium urethane modified vinyl ester resin that is a tough, resilient polymer. It combines outstanding chemical resistance and high temperature performance with excellent laminating properties. Fiberglass Hawaii Vinyl Ester Resin has exceptional wetting characteristics when used with carbon and aramid fabrics as well as all types of conventional glass fibers.

Preparation

Surfaces should be sanded and clean, dry and free of oil-based paint, oil, wax, dust and other contaminants. Do not wipe with tack cloth.

Mixing

Fiberglass Hawaii Vinyl Ester Resins are formulated for use with Fiberglass Hawaii MEKP Catalyst. Fiberglass Hawaii Vinyl Ester Resin responds well to most initiators and, unlike conventional vinyl ester resins, does not foam when catalyzed with MEKP.

Application

To avoid waste, mix only the volume of resin that can be applied in 10-15 minutes. Using a brush or squeegee, apply resin to surface. After fabric is thoroughly saturated use resin roller or squeegee to remove wrinkles, air bubbles, and any excess resin. This material will remain tacky and is not formulated to be sanded. When fabricating thick sections using Fiberglass Hawaii Vinyl Ester Resins, high levels of DMA should be avoided since they can result in a very high peak exotherm. Use of cumene hydroperoxide initiator has been shown to significantly reduce exotherm while developing a rapid cure in thick laminate sections.
